Class Descriptions
Each class is offered in two 15 week semesters (Fall & Spring) with the Spring semester being an extension of the material covered in the Fall. The Fall semester will have a definite ending so that it can be taken by itself. However, it is to the student’s advantage to take both semesters. This is especially true if they wish to move on to more advanced classes.
Music Classes
Music Time (Ages 2-5)
This is a wonderful class that will help your child develop many important skills at a critical age. It has been proven that learning music also helps a child to develop other abilities such as speech, motor skills and social skills. In this class, children will be introduced to many fun songs and will be encouraged to hum, sing and move to the beat. They will use basic rhythm instruments, in addition to their bodies, to learn concepts about rhythm, tempo and body control. Also, the use of language is emphasized in the singing of songs.
Voice Class (Ages 6-10)
This is a unique opportunity for young actors and singers to get early voice training prior to private lessons. Students will learn basic technique and will work on repertoire appropriate for their age. It is a great way for anyone ages 6-10 to learn the basics and explore their vocal talent.
Elements of Song Writing
Accent Music offers two levels of this class. The first level involves basic training in music theory concepts such as rhythm, pitch names, chords, scales, dynamics and common music terms. This is the best class for you if you want to write music, but don’t read music yet. Students will learn what makes the music they love special, and will have the opportunity to apply the techniques they learn in a supportive and fun setting. At Accent Music and School of Performing Arts, we believe that students who truly understand and appreciate the music they listen to, play and write, have a stronger connection to it, and have more fun in their musical adventures!
Advanced Song Writing Techniques
The Advanced Song Writing Class at Accent Music is a practical application of the concepts learned in Elements of Music & Song Writing. Popular music serves as the focus of the class, as students participate in various listening, analysis and writing exercises designed to familiarize them with a variety of popular techniques. Each student will work on song writing projects assigned by the teacher, and will receive regular input, feedback and encouragement from the instructor and classmates in a workshop-style setting. You may skip the Elements Class and register for this if you already read music well.
Theater Classes
Fundamentals of Acting (Ages 6-10)
This class is perfect for the young beginner who wants to explore their talent and creativity in acting. Students will focus on acting games and exercises which are both fun and highly developmental. In addition to acting skills, students will also improve social and public speaking skills, which will help them in many areas of their lives.
Acting for the Stage (Ages 9-14)
This class is the transition between the Fundamentals of Acting and the more advanced classes that follow. Students will continue to develop acting technique, while being encouraged to work more on individual auditioning. Students will also be exposed to improv, musical theatre and scene work, and will have performing opportunities at recitals.
Advanced Acting & Improv Techniques
(Ages 11-17)
This class will focus on several types of theatre, including drama, comedy and improv. Students will work on scenes and monologues from all genres during the course of the school year. Students will be given the opportunity to perform what they have worked on in front of an audience at the end of each semester and at recitals throughout the year. This is an essential class for anyone into “straight” comedic or dramatic acting. It is also a very good class for those interested in musical theatre, as it will help to prepare the student for a variety of acting roles.
Musical Theatre (Ages 11-17)
This class is a more advanced version of the above. It is highly recommended that students in this class also be enrolled in private voice lessons so they can prepare songs musically before using them in class. Students will receive valuable instruction and feedback which will help them to become better singer/actors and will obtain specific help on audition songs for practical use.
Theatrical Production (Ages 10-18)
Join Mr. Frank (Frank Brodzinski) to learn the ins and outs of the production process; from producer to stagehand, sound technician to box-office. Students should have some experience In addition to classroom learning, students will have the unique opportunity of being involved in the production of Accent’s plays and musicals. This class is valuable for all actors because it offers them a broad perspective of the whole theatre process. It is essential if you have any thoughts about going into theatre production as a career.
Dance Classes
Dance Combos (Tap, Jazz, Ballet)
This class is a fun way for kids to get some of the basics in several popular styles of dance. The class is taught in such a way that students of slightly differing levels can all learn together, so if one student develops faster than another, they will still be able to continue learning.

Musical Theatre Dance
This class focuses on the third element of musical theatre: dance. Many styles of dance, including, tap, jazz, modern and ballet will be used to teach students dance routines from a variety of popular musicals. Students who have never had dance or students who consider dance to be their weakest musical theatre skill should take Level 1. Level 2 will involve more difficult routines and should be taken by students who have already had some experience in tap, jazz and/or ballet.
