Agnieszka Sornek

Pianist Agnieszka Sornek holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in her native Poland. She taught Dalcroze Eurhythmics and served as accompanist at the Karol Szymanowski School of Music in Warsaw before moving to the United States. Currently, Ms. Sornek is a Graduate Assistant at Duquesne University, as well as the Music Director at Sacred Heart Parish in Emsworth. Active as a collaborative musician, Agnieszka performs regularly in the Pittsburgh area as an accompanist and member of numberous chamber ensembles.

Janet Massie

Janet Massie has taught violin, viola, cello, and bass for Accent Music for five years. In addition to private lessons, she also teaches strings in the Baldwin School District. Mrs. Massie graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in Music Education and has performed in many local community orchestras. Her students have performed and participated in Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association Music festivals, local student orchestras, and have received excellent ratings from both Music in the Parks, and CMU adjudications.

Rick Lang

A 1994 graduate of Duquesne University (B.S. in Music Education), Rick spent 11 years in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area. During that time, he taught middle school orchestra, band, chorus, and high school orchestra. While in Virginia, Rick also established himself as a private teacher of string and electric bass, orchestral strings (violin, viola, and cello), and piano. Additionally, Rick performed with the Old Fredericksburg Theater Company, and Fredericksburg Big Band as a bassist. Currently, Rick is a freelance musician in the Pittsburgh area, and a stay-at-home father of three kids. He performs regularly with the Butler Symphony and Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra. He has also performed as a cellist with the Slippery Rock University Orchestra.

Bill Freeburn

Bill Freeburn is an accomplished drummer who has been an integral member of the staff here at Accent Music for the last four years. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he moved to Pittsburgh to study percussion at Duquesne University and has been an active member of the area’s music scene ever since. Mr. Freeburn has played in numerous groups and ensembles, ranging from jazz combos to rock and metal bands. He brings this diverse musical background to his students, working with them on a variety of techniques and styles.

Franklin Elliott Brodzinski

Franklin Elliott Brodzinski has held an active role in the entertainment industry for more than fifteen years. A graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio, where he majored in Music and minored in Drama, Franklin is a uniquely versatile talent, at home in the worlds of both theater and music. With a wealth of experience in production, technical theater, acting, composition, and performance on a variety of percussion, woodwind, and brass instruments, he brings an impressive body of work and expertise with him to Accent Music.

In 1993, Franklin founded Elliott Productions as a magic production company, performing professionally under the stage name Frank Elliott. Over the years he has performed in theme parks, resorts, corporate events, colleges, and comedy clubs dazzling audiences with close-up effects as well as full scale stage illusions.

Since 2001, Franklin has been an active force in the creation of many theme park productions. His music arrangements have been heard in strolling bands at Kennywood Park, Playland Park, and Adventureland Park. He has built and painted stage sets for shows at Kennywood Park, Idlewild Park, Seabreeze Park, Adventureland Park, and Lake Compounce. Franklin has also created a number of turn-key shows for Kennywood Park, Playland Park, and LeSourdsville Lake.

As an instructor, Franklin has educated countless students through private and class instruction in Piano, Voice, Percussion, Brass, Acting, and Sleight-of-Hand while on staff at The Center of Music and Art in Wintersville, Ohio. In 2003, he served as voice coach for Indian Creek High School’s presentation of ”West Side Story”, and in 2004 he served as Music Director for the school’s presentation of “South Pacific”.

Michael Karwowski

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, (B.M. Composition) and Carnegie Mellon University, (M.M. Composition) Michael has been composing, performing, and teaching for more than 20 years. He currently teaches Theory/Composition, Guitar, Electric Bass and Piano, and was a part-time faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University where he taught Music Theory, and Form & Analysis. Michael has also taught Music History for the CMU Pre-College Program.

His compositions reflect an individual style and technique, not remaining tied to one particular genre. His works include Classical, Jazz Fusion, and Rock, as well as combining elements and techniques from these three styles. The unique approach to harmonic movement, harmony/melody relationships, odd time signatures, and polymeters brings forth new twists and turns, at times bordering on Avant-Garde.

Mission Statement: Accent Music provides quality music, dance, and dramatic instruction. We encourage students to have fun while realizing their full potential in music and the performing arts. Further, we are committed to assisting students in the fulfillment of their goals in any way that we can. Often, this includes writing recommendation letters, providing career counseling, matching students with other musicians and artists, and finding performing opportunities for students.

History: Accent Music was founded in 2004 by singer/voice teacher David Cooke. For the past 5 years, we have offered private music lessons, acting, dance and musical theater camps. In June of 2008,we added a small retail music store which provides instruments and accessories at affordable prices.
